We exist for the Proclamation of God in Christ, for the Transformation of God’s people, & for the Exaltation of God in all things.
The vision for Redeemer Baptist Church was birthed by Rachel and Daryl Allison in 2009. The first meetings were held at the Allison home in May 2009, where the group decided on the name of the church, suggested by Jeremy Smith. At that time, Pastor Bill Schakat was serving as a youth pastor at Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville while studying at seminary. Redeemer Baptist Church was officially constituted on August 30, 2009.
From September 2009 to January 2012, Pastor Bill traveled to Blairsville once a month to lead worship services and delivered sermons via Skype to the members throughout the rest of the month. In December 2009, the Schakats returned to Blairsville full-time, and the church began holding Sunday morning and Sunday evening services at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In 2017, after years of prayer and searching for a permanent location, we learned that Youngstown Baptist Church was building a new facility because they had outgrown their current space. Pastor Bill reached out to their pastor and discovered that Youngstown was also seeking funds to complete the interior of their new building. Due to the terms of their original land gift, they could only sell to a Baptist church. A deal was quickly arranged, and in one phone call, God answered the prayers of both churches! We have been hosting services at our building since August 6, 2017.
Since then, we have experienced amazing growth and have added several ministries that bring joy and support to our community. We are deeply grateful for all the blessings we've received along this journey and look forward to what lies ahead!
To God Be The Glory!
